It looked like a line for a popular roller coaster the way the line wrapped around Shelton Intermediate School for the annual Trunk or Treat event Monday night.
Dee Kopec of the Shelton Youth Service Bureau said she didn’t anticipate such a large crowd of trick or treaters for Halloween this year because it fell on a school night, but she was pleasantly surprised.
Families were all smiles as they made their way down the isle of decorated cars, posing for pictures with people whose costumes they recognized.
The parking lot sure was packed at the Intermediate School, but by 7:30 p.m. it seemed like in many other portions of the city the flow of trick or treaters had slowed down.
Some families said that they no longer participate in “traditional” neighborhood trick or treating, others said they refuse to see the tradition fade.
“We try to give them the best of both worlds,” said A.J. Keirans of Shelton who attended the Trunk or Treat event with his family all dressed as Pokémon. “After here we will take them out in the neighborhood to do some more trick or treating. We live over by Coram so it’s a good place for it.”
Data gathered through a Twitter survey created by the Shelton Herald, showed that on-foot trick or treating still is a popular method.
